Elthorne Road, which gives the Elthorne Estate its name, was originally called Redcap Lane and, being named after a bird, shows the area's original rural village character. The area developed most readily with industrialisation from the Mid-19th century onwards
Residents are positive about living in the Elthorne Pride area. They continue to have many suggestions for the ways in which the would like the area to change and improve during the life of the Big Local Lottery Fund and beyond.
A number of community organisations are based at Caxton House, which is central to the Elthorne Pride area. Most of their services are accessed by residents in Islington and wider www.caxtonhouse.org
